This month, we’ll explore printmaking through three distinct processes: linocut, drypoint and monoprinting.
Across three weeks, artists will experiment with carving, mark-making, ink, pressure, layering and image transfer while discovering how dramatically the process itself can influence a finished piece.
We’ll introduce the tools and techniques behind each form of printmaking and look at different approaches for inspiration. From there, students will develop their own imagery, experiment with variations and discover what happens when the same idea is printed, layered and reworked in different ways.
Printmaking is an especially interesting exercise in letting go of perfection. A print doesn’t always come out exactly as expected—and sometimes the unexpected mark, texture or layer becomes the most interesting part. Students will be encouraged to respond, adapt and keep experimenting as their work develops.
3-week series • Middle School
Enrolled students are also invited to attend our monthly Community Open Studio complimentary, where their work from the month will be displayed and celebrated.
