This month, we’re diving into the wonderfully hands-on world of printmaking.
Across three weeks, young artists will explore linocut, drypoint and monoprinting—three very different ways of creating an image and transferring it to paper. We’ll carve, scratch, layer, ink, press and experiment with the wonderfully unpredictable things that can happen when you make a print.
Rather than working toward one identical finished project, students will learn each process, explore examples and then use the techniques to develop imagery and ideas of their own.
Printmaking naturally invites experimentation: change the color, add another layer, adjust the pressure, make another print and see what happens. Along the way, students will practice creative decision-making, problem-solving and learning from the unexpected.
3-week series • Grades 2–5
Enrolled students are also invited to attend our monthly Community Open Studio complimentary, where their work from the month will be displayed and celebrated.
