Join artist Kate Kaminski of The Habitat Shoppe for a relaxed and social evening exploring clay in the ceramics studio at the John Michael Kohler Arts Center. This beginner-friendly workshop is designed to be a fun introduction to working with clay while creating a unique and functional piece for your home.

Guests will learn simple hand-building techniques to shape their own ceramic trinket tray—perfect for holding jewelry, keys, or small everyday treasures. Kate will guide participants through forming and refining their tray while encouraging playful experimentation with texture and shape.

At the end of the workshop, guests will select from a few curated glaze options, which will be applied and fired for you after the event. Finished pieces will be ready for pickup approximately four weeks later.

This workshop is designed to be a welcoming, low-pressure creative experience—perfect for a night out with friends or anyone curious about trying clay for the first time.

Guests will meet at 6:30 PM at the lobby of JMKAC, where we will gather the group and guide everyone to the ceramics studio.

Kate Kaminski is a Wisconsin-based artist and educator. She earned her B.A. in Art Education from Western Illinois University and her MFA in Sculpture from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale. In addition to her current role teaching art at Pigeon River Elementary School in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, Kaminski has taught at the collegiate level and has led numerous workshops, community classes, and artist-based events.

Alongside her teaching work, she maintains an active studio practice focused on sculpture and installation. She also runs The Habitat Shoppe, her ceramic-wares production studio. Join us beneath our signature oversized floral installation for a curated creative experience unlike anything else in our community. Choose from elevated, hands-on art engagements — from sculpted clay and metal relief art to modern terrariums, block printing, watercolor, and more.

🍹 Sora Matcha will be on-site serving matcha and flavored lemonades. Your $10 deposit covers your first drink of the evening — a perfect companion to your creative exploration.

Matcha & Mindfulness: A Half-Day Creative Retreat

Step away from the pace of everyday life and join us for a half-day retreat centered on creativity, ritual, and intentional rest. This collaborative experience brings together artists and wellness practitioners from our community for a morning of making, movement, and mindful connection.

Together with Sora Matcha, we’ll explore the beauty of slowing down through hands-on creativity and shared ritual. The matcha portion of this experience is offered in collaboration with Hmong practitioners in our community, whose lived experience and cultural knowledge guide this practice as a grounding ritual centered on care, presence, and intentional gathering.

Guests will hand-build their own ceramic matcha bowl or mug, learning simple clay techniques to shape a functional piece you’ll use in your future tea practice. You’ll also take part in a guided matcha workshop with Sora Matcha, where you’ll learn the basics of preparing and enjoying matcha with care and intention.

Throughout the retreat, you’ll move through a series of calming experiences designed to nourish both body and mind. Guests may choose to participate in a gentle yoga session led by Samantha or opt into a quiet art journaling experience guided by Sadie, offering two different ways to slow down and connect with the present moment.

Midway through the retreat, guests will pause to enjoy a thoughtfully prepared brunch creating time to relax, connect, and enjoy the community forming around the table.

This retreat is designed to be welcoming, restorative, and deeply creative — a chance to reconnect with yourself while making something meaningful with your hands.

Bloom Big: Giant Crepe Paper Flowers

With Lola Jakimczyk

Join TSC staff member and artist, Lola Jakimczyk, for a joyful evening of oversized blooms and bold creativity. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll create your own large-scale crepe paper flower that makes a stunning statement for your home, event décor, or gifting.

Using provided templates, guests will cut, shape, and assemble petals and leaves to build one beautiful flower from start to finish. Choose from three different flower varieties and customize your colors to match your personal style. Lola will guide you step-by-step through techniques for shaping crepe paper, adding dimension, and constructing a full, lifelike bloom.

Lola Jakimczyk is a multidisciplinary artist and creative team member at TSC. Known for her love of color, scale, and murals within our community, Lola enjoys helping others discover accessible ways to create bold, beautiful art. She brings warmth, encouragement, and an eye for detail to every workshop she leads.

What to Expect:
Step-by-step guidance for cutting and shaping crepe paper petals
